The Hold Up

By Overflow Theatre Company

We are creating an experimental/immersive performance about five insurgents, one police negotiator and their exploits. The five insurgents have just robbed a high profile bank and want to use the money to fund the Red Brick Army, a communist group who want equality in pay for all races, ethnicities, genders and every area of work. They hate the western civilisation's practices and believe an international reform is in order.

But things have gone wrong. Now the group are held up in a local church and have taken hostages.... the audience.

In their midst is a woman called Lily, a former civilian who was captured by the group and brainwashed through means of torture and now sees the goals of the group as righteous and believes in them. Enter the negotiator, a clever, intuitive man who has been sent in to come to terms with the insurgents and their demands. Can he convince her to turn back and help him stop these so-called terrorists? Can they be stopped? Is everything as black and white as it seems?

Our theatre group specialise in close quarters immersive theatre, involving the audience not only mentally and emotionally but physically including them in the unfolding events of our performance. We take matters of public interest and explore their controversial grey areas.
