Mortem Artis

By Artifex Theatre Group

Amber Mae will tackle this solo performance in the basement at Hazelrigg House. Join her in 'Mortem Artis', a show presenting the concept of creativity being void in the culture we live in today. In a country run by politics and business, the 'artistic' personalities are made to choose to conform, or to be sent to â€˜creative confinement.’ They can be as creative as they desire, but kept away from the public eye, in solitude.

This show will provoke the idea of an extremist plan that seems to have begun taking place already. With arts funding hangingin the balance this is a new twist on the issues surrounding those millions of people who live for the arts. How far will the government be able to go before people are placed in solitary confinement, in order to express themselves?

This solo performance shows a girl coming to terms with being placed in isolation, simply because her brain performs differently. Finding herself in a darkened room without recollection to how she got there, nothing but mirrors, a chest, and some old objects surround her. With nobody but her reflection to talk to, slowly she begins to piece together flashes and memories of how life was before. Discovering the truth to her isolation, she is desperate to find a way out. But she needs to decide whether the walls around her are worth leaving for company, or worth remaining in for her love of art.

Venue: Hazelrigg House- Basement

This performance has an age restriction of 15+. The show is performed in a dark confined space and feelings of claustrophobia may occur. There is use of dim lighting, flashing lights and loud music throughout this performance.
